Uncommon Grounds is what I would call a “history of a thing.” There are other books in this category that I have read but that do not appear on this map.
The book explains how coffee was discovered, cultivated, and transformed into a global commodity. It sits close to modern Latin American history because much of the history of coffee concerns its economic influence on Latin American plantation economies, as well as their connection to the United States and American capitalism.
